The content of your sessions will be kept confidential, except where there is a requirement by law, a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or where you give consent for the confidence to be broken.  On these occasions there would be full discussion with you.

The BACP Code of Ethics requires me to obtain regular supervision of my work, which is carried out within anonymous disclosure.  All records are kept in a secure place.

Firstly, I will see you for an initial introductory session.  This is an opportunity for us to meet and decide whether my services are of help to you and whether you wish to book further appointments.  There is no obligation to book further appointments at the time of your first visit.  Indeed, many people quite rightly take time thinking carefully about their choice of counsellor.

Each session is for 50 minutes. For effective counselling to take place, it is important that sessions are regular and continuous, since this provides a structure for the counselling process.  The frequency and number of sessions will be planned and review sessions will take place on a regular basis.  If either you or I feel that the time has come to end the sessions, this will need to be discussed.
